SONGS FROM THE SANDBOX

vividly illustrates what Stephen does best – crafting memorable melodies (“Wrap Me Up In Yellow”), spinning whimsical tales (“Kitty Walks A Tightrope”) and leaving us with unforgettable characters filled with wit and fancy (“Owney’s Song”). Seamlessly melding Stephen "the songwriter" with Stephen "the performer", this collection of musical styles takes us from a New Orleans romp (“Statues Dance”) to be-bop jazz (“Alligator Pie”) to a Danny Kaye-like story (“Kitty Walks A Tightrope”).  Two of his best compositions, “Wrap Me Up In Yellow” and “Dinosaur Hunt”, were originally written for the hit PBS television series, JAY JAY THE JET PLANE,  and reappear on this latest release performed the way Stephen originally envisioned them.

Songs From the Sandbox stands alone from other children’s albums. Stephenʼs warm vocals and intricate musical patterns sound like they could be from a Broadway musical for kids; the quality is exceptional. His stories and music collaboratively tell funny anecdotes that will interest kids, from the world’s worst dog to a tightrope-strutting feline. “Dinosaur Hunt” explores big and baby dinos, and the jazzy “Alligator Pie” is an ode to scaly bread, cake, and pie. This album is a perfect soundtrack for playtime.
